PocketGK - Bass Guitar Amp App Reviews

Must have

Thats an app that all bass players need!!!

Doesnt work with iRig

The app produces no sound at all with an iRig on an iPad 2 and instead complains it requires a guitar adapter. I was unable to get support from the developer because their contact web form is broken. "Finger weg", as they say here.

Simple and good

Simply the best for Bass ! Works with iRig and Ampkit Link (better) A Compressor would be fine, AND a Volume Control for the Playback Songs !! (Or Background Mode...)

Ok

This app needs more features for $4.99 , for example; A tuner would be nice, the ability to choose different amp models : 800rb, 2001rb ,mb series etc. Perhaps a future update could include this or as in app purchase. The ability to choose more cabinets would be nice also. Anyhow pretty basic app for $4.99 , should be $1.99 at most.

Noisy

Im just looking for an bass amp app that delivers a big, round, clean sound. All I can get out of this app is noisy, gainy, noise gate kicking in all the time sound. I am using the Peavey AmpKit interface and a moderately expensive patch cord. (not to mention some decent Grado headphones). Why cant I just get a nice clean sound? I know its possible--using AmpliTube free with the tuner on, I get a nice clean, unaltered sound. If youre looking for a clean bass sound, maybe try that. Its free.

Great app could be better

Nice app! Being able to play directly with your mp3s is great. Its more convenient than importing the music like other apps. The bass sound is good and it sounds like GK. More choice would be great (different heads, cabinets, mics).

now has background audio!

First of all a word about gear: if you expect sound from the 1/8 headphone jack adapter to be as good as one going through the 30 pin digital, you are setting yourself up for disappointment and frustration. Trust me, you can hear and feel the price difference. I’m a bass player and have an iRig and an iRiffport. Actually, no, I just gave away my irig to a friend. Now about the app. Well the GK tone is great and all and you can play along your songs. For the price I would have really liked to have background audio/ ios multitasking. I have revised my review to a 5 star now that bckground audio has been added. This basically enable you to dial in your tone, hit the home button and run a sheet music app like forScore or iRealb while still hearing yourself. It makes the app 10x more relevant and is awesome.

Great app.

Its an awesome app, it would be even better if it had a metronome for practicing.

Godd app but...

Problem i found is the amount of noise ..and too much distortion when pushing the eq control

Great potential falls short

I was excited to use a bass specific app but the app has too many bugs to be effective. Its not useable and a waste of money at this point. They need to listen to their customers and make changes.

Ip4s

I was hope that will work with garageband. Isnt working :-( fix this to able sound routing.

PocketGK WITH an iriffport

To all those who want, use and love this this app as I do, I just want to say yes, its amazing. I did hesitate to upgrade to a new iPhone thinking it wouldnt work anymore. I did it anyway and guess what, the app works perfectly. I took a chance on it because well, I cant say much about recent support from pocketlabworks as the last message I ever received back was in 2013. I sent several emails about my concern with other iOS versions. No responses. Dont care. Im not a support freak. I try things and figure it out. It works. No bugs. Maybe somewhere in the middle of the iPhone 4,5 iOS changes there were problems but I never switched until now. I have the new iPhone 6s on iOS 9.3.1. It works better on this new iPhone than it did on my old one. If anyone has been wanting to make this move, I have taken care of the guess work for you and this company too, apparently. Use it with confidence. Cheers!

Great app!!

This app is a great tool for practicing and learning new music without disturbing others. With the new update, it now has a chromatic tuner and you can multitask or put the unit to sleep and keep on playing.

Game changer

Between this app and the riff port, this has totally changed the way I practice and learn new songs. Works great on both iPhone and iPad.

Works perfect for me

I have this and two other PocketLabWorks products. All three work great, and support has been even better when I had some issues starting out. While I can appreciate what another reviewer said about the cable cost, I did some exploring of other options before buying. The iRiffPort cable had the best reputation/reviews and worked with the biggest variety of apps by other app makers. Its kind of like the iPad itself… not the cheapest tablet out there, but the one that works the best so you can actually spend your time using it, not fighting to get it to do what you want to do. Thats just my experience/opinion, though.

Works well!

I picked this up to practice with, and it works flawlessly with my Apogee Jam - which, incidentally, works really well with my mac to boot. Theres not much in the way of hiss, so if youre used to headphone amps this will be a pleasant surprise. Its not jam-packed with all the latest features, but its well-thought and does what it does very well. Id love to see a delay and a distortion effect - Ive had no luck overdriving the amp to get more than a modest tweak to my crunchiness.

Have to buy expensive cable.

They dont make it known that the app is useless without buying an extra cable. Dont know why it cant just output to an amp to play along. Dont bother with this app.

Finally, A Good App for Bass Players!

Being a big fan of GK gear I had to check out this app. Glad I did! Simple to use and sounds good. Controls are simple and the tone is good. You can pull songs up in your iTunes library and jam along with them, which makes it great for learning new songs. Also great for practicing without disturbing others. The negative reviews regarding the purchase of an expensive cable are not accurate! Yes you do need an interface cable of some kind. However, there are several fairly inexpensive ones that work including the iRig. I bought a used iRig for $13 and it works just fine with this app!

Handy app

Great bass app. I dont own the iRiffport, I have the iRig, which uses the headphone jack. I have no doubt the sound quality and usability would be improved with the iRiffport and a better set of headphones, but it is quite functional using the iRig and the Apple ear buds. A great way to get my practice in without irritating my wife or waking the baby. A few suggestions...the Trainer is good, letting you create loops, speed up, slow down and vary pitch. I do, however, wish the pitch varying function was both broader in steps and had more steps within the range to choose from. Would be nice to put the songs in whatever key you feel like playing in. Also, DRM does affect use of the Trainer function on some selections. On such songs, you cannot speed up, slow down, loop, vary pitch, which is an annoyance, especially if the recording not in the key you want. The third wish pertains to its access of your music...would be improved if it remembered what playlist you were playing from. It will advance on its own to the next song in the list when the current selection is finished, or you can pick the previous or next on the list with a touch of the screen. However, if you desire to pick another song from the same playlist, you have to go to Music, then choose the source (playlist, artist, song title, etc.)...basically start over in your music selection. All in all, big thumbs up for this app. I play in a band and it allows me to practice by myself, quietly on new songs, brush up on older stuff, and keep me sharp for my bands scheduled practices and shows. It is inexpensive and has some great useful features. Think I will purchase the iRiffport in the near future. It seems a little steep pricewise, but expect it to improve sound quality and let you take advantage of the GK EQ and tone controls. If they were to address some of the suggestions I listed above, I would definitely change my four stars to five.

Love it!!

Sounds great with my MTD, and my Apogee Jam!! This app is awesome! I love it
